In The Beginning, God Created Adam And Eve
Posted on: June 27th, 2008After God brings Eve to Adam to be his helper, Adam makes a very powerful statement that has future implications for all married people. Here is what he says in reference to Eve:
“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh …” (Genesis 2:22)
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)
Right at the beginning of creation with the creation of the first man and the first woman, God tells us how powerful and holy the marriage union is going to be. Bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh - two people becoming one flesh! These words right there tell you why divorce and marital breakups are so painful. It’s like flesh ripping from flesh when two married people try to dissolve the marriage union.
This is why divorces or even any type of breakup in a deep love relationship are so painful when one or both of the partners try to break it off. There is a spiritual union that occurs when two people marry for true love. And when one or both want out of the marriage for whatever reason, the pain can literally be excruciating because of the spiritual union that has taken place within the love of that marriage.
Then the bible says that God now puts man in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it. The stage is now set. God has given this first man and first woman everything they could possibly need to be happy and fulfilled.
They have both been made in the image and likeness of God. They now have each other as marriage mates. God has given them total dominion over everything on the earth. He has told them that they are free to be fruitful and multiply - which means they are free to start having children within the marriage union.
They both have direct contact and fellowship with God Himself as this account says that God walked in the Garden of Eden where they were now living. They literally had it all!
However, there was just one small catch!
The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil
1. After God perfectly sets the above stage forAdam and Eve and literally gives them everything under the sun, He tells them that there is now one thing that they cannot do. He specifically tells them that they can eat of every single tree that is in this garden - with the exception of one tree. This one tree was called the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
Think about this. God makes this test that they both had to pass for the future implication of all mankind as easy as He possibly could. He tells them that all they have to do is stay off of this one tree. He tells them that they can literally eat from every other tree that is in this garden.
The Bible does not tell us how many other trees were in this garden - but I bet there were thousands of them. All they had to do was to obey God’s direct command to stay off of this one tree - and they would have eventually passed the test - and all of us could have been born into this perfect God environment. But they blew it big time - not only for themselves - but also for the rest of mankind that was to follow.
In addition to telling them not to eat any fruit that was on this one tree, God allowed one other thing to occur in this setup. He allowed Satan himself to be able to roam in this garden in the form of a serpent - knowing full well that Satan would try and tempt them to disobey His direct command to the both of them not to eat any fruit off of this one forbidden tree.
So God sits back and watches this scenario unfold. Will Adam and Eve listen to and abide by God’s direct command not to eat any fruit off of this one tree - or are they going to allow themselves to be duped by the devil?

If You Could Talk To God, What Would You Ask?
Posted on: June 24th, 2008Imagine that you were priviliged enough to get an interview with God: what do you think you’d ask Him? I am pretty sure you would ask some questions having to to with life’s deepest meanings. Or would you perhaps ask questions related to things happening in your own future? On the other hand, you might come up with questions about the existence of Heaven and Hell, and where you might be heading in relation to those places.
There is really such an enormous number of questions one may feel like asking, if one got a chance to have an interview with God. My personal guess is that your idea of who God is would strongly influence the kind of questions you’d ask. For instance: do you see God as that nice person who is loving and forgiving, or do you see Him as throwing fire and brimstone at you at the drop of a hat?
Remember that story in the Old Testament, where God decides that since all humans are evil He is going to kill them all by unleashing a terrible flood? And the only human that is good enough to satisfy God is Noah, plus his family. Noah then builds an Ark to survive the flood, and is nice enough to take one pair of every animal on Earth aboard the Ark; thus saving each species from extinction. As the flood ends, the Ark strands on the mountain of Ararat, and all ends well.
Now my point is - if you compare the God acting like this with the God of the New Testament, do you think the latter would ever be capable of acting like that, drowning nearly all mankind because He got mad at them? Take for example all those little children who got drowned during the flood; were they evil also or did they just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? Truly, if I ever got a chance to have an interview with God, then I would certainly ask Him if this is a true story, or just something made up to scare you.
I know of one person who says he is having conversations with God; his name is Neale Walsch. He has written some books on the subject and I’ve read some of those. He asks God deep questions and recieves really deep and profound responses. It all started one night when Neale felt very frustrated and shouted at God in despair. The rest is history. To get a taste of what kind of things God is saying, you can get the “interview with God screensaver“, a free screensaver whic is inspired by Neale’s books.
By now, Mr Walsch has written a whole bunch of books where he talks with God, and I haven’t even gotten around to reading all of them (I must confess I’m more into Buddhism). Anyway, if you are one of those people who feel it is time to update some of the old-fashioned concepts of who God really is, then I can warmly recommend Neale’s “Conversations”… book series. Even if you don’t believe it really is God that’s talking, you will most likely be very impressed with the deep and profound level of the message.
Anyone who has difficulties with some of the old-fashioned Christian ideas of who God is will feel enlightened by the God who is doing the talking in these books.
Christian Family Business
Posted on: June 22nd, 2008If you’re looking for a home-based business opportunity, and you’re a Christian, a Christian based business can offer a great opportunity to educate and nurture the spirits of Christians around the world. So what is a Christian based business? Essentially, as the name implies, you are selling products which have a Christian theme, of interest to those of the Christian faith. People of other faiths may also become customers, curious to learn about Christianity. It’s a spiritually rewarding business, as the products you’re selling are typically educational, comforting to the soul or uplifting in nature. This family business can be a brick-and-mortar location, online or both.
Leasing a building naturally requires more overhead than an online business. For the online Christian based business, all you need is a web page, domain name and a way to accept online payment. You have the added advantage of being able to work out of your home while earning income, so you have a lot of flexibility in your family schedule.
Your Christian based business can be as large or small as you like. If you can establish your distributors and drop-shipping, you can carry a large number of products.
Most online Christian sites sell books, music and gift items. These are best-selling items and you’ll find you can make a comfortable living on just these three.
However, there are many other products for the Christian based business owner to consider. Once you’re established, you can add to your product line as you go along. Other popular products include Church and pastoral supplies, Christian craft items such as Christmas decorations and embroidery or cross stitch crafts, art items such as sculptures, figurines and stained glass panels. Crosses and Rosaries, Christian themed jewelry, Christian school products, religious studies, audio books, e-books and software are other products you may want to add as time goes on. From Bible covers to Christian videos and DVD’s, you’ll have a lot to offer your visitors.
Kids items are always big sellers and there are a lot of products to choose from when considering expanding your product line. For kids, there are magazines, clothing and accessories, music downloads, puzzles and homeschooling curriculums and texts.
As you learn the “techy” parts of running a website, you might want to consider message boards, a blog or a newsletter to make your site an interactive experience for your visitors. Having your own Christian based business can be a rewarding endeavor, knowing your site is helpful to others and can be fun for your whole family.
Images Of Saints
Posted on: June 20th, 2008Many people find inspiration and solace from the saints and like to have pictures in their homes. There are a wide variety of saints posters available, some of which are by well known artists. Other prints have no known artist, the identity being lost as it has passed down through the years.
Leonardo da Vinci painted many biblical scenes and characters; one of his prints is of the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne. Other renaissance artists feature in saints posters. Raphael’s Saint Catherine of Alexandria is a striking image. Caravaggio depicted a very muscular Saint John the Baptist with a ram.
Giovanni Bellini is a favorite for print reproduction. His Pieta, circa 1505 is a very moving painting of the Virgin Mary and the body of Christ with a countryside scene in the background. Another print shows a detail of his version of Saint George and the Dragon, Predella, just at the moment of slaying the dragon. He also painted one of the most revered saints and father of the Catholic Church, Saint Peter. A strange wedding scene is shown in The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine, 1524. Lorenzo Lotto painted her holding a cherub like baby.
Peter Paul Rubens painted a picture titled, Two Saints. They are in close up and in conversation with each other, but we do not know who they are. The English artist, John William Waterhouse painted Saint Cecilia, showing her in her chair having fallen asleep whilst reading a book and being serenaded by two lady musicians.
Most countries have saints that are given special significance and there are many saints posters identifying these. Two prints are by unknown artists, Saint Nicholas, Moscow School and Saint William, German School 16th Century. Another shows Our Lady of Guadalupe with Mexican Flag, artist unknown.
Some modern images of saints are on offer. The subjects are the same ones found in all the saints posters outlets but they are by contemporary artists working in bold colors and a graphic design style. These include Saint Patrick and the ever popular Saint George Fighting Dragon. Of course, there are prints of the Popes too and art work found within the Vatican. New saints are being created every year, which will keep today’s artists busy. For lovers of sculpture, there are prints of sculptures of the saints, especially those found in Rome and Florence. Whilst other people go in and out of fashion, the saints will endure.
Astrology
Posted on: June 16th, 2008Astrology is the study of the influence that distant cosmic objects, usually stars and planets, have on human lives. The position of the sun, stars, moon and planets at the time of people’s birth (not their conception) is said to shape their personality, affect their romantic relationships and predict their economic fortunes, among other divinations.
Astrology has been practiced for thousands of years, and it appears to many people that astrology is a manifestation of the human mind’s first attempts to explain events in the world by association rather than causal relationships. In other words, non-technological cultures often explain events by the action of gods or coincidental events and omens. The same myth-making part of the brain that created Greek, Norse, Hindu, Chinese, native American, African, or any other cultures myths, seems to have conjured up the myths of astrology.
Astrology is a SYMBOLIC language which has proven to be a very useful tool for gaining new insights into the human psyche and communicating ideas to others in a common language. Just as you can talk Mathematics to anyone in any foreign language and understand the same mathematical concepts, you can talk Astrology to anyone in any language and the astrological concepts will be understood and generally agreed upon.
The essential teaching of astrology, reaching back to the ancient worship of the stars, was that of spiritual communion between the human and the heavenly. The modern fascination with astrology — even in its crudest forms — stems from a growing nostalgia for that older, more unified sense of nature in which the sun, moon and stars were experienced as a vast network of living consciousness. For a growing number of people, the rich imagery of these old traditions has become a more inspiration way of talking about emotions, values, motivations and goals than conventional psychiatry. The astrological universe is, after all, the universe of Greco-Roman myth, of Dante, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Blake. It has poetry and philosophy built into it.
Even so, astrology is believed by millions of people and it has survived for thousands of years. The ancient Chaldeans and Assyrians engaged in astrological divination some 3,000 years ago. The spread of astrological practice was checked by the rise of Christianity, which emphasized divine intervention and free will. During the Renaissance, astrology regained popularity, in part due to rekindled interest in science and astronomy. Christian theologians, however, warred against astrology, and in 1585 Pope Sixtus V condemned it. At the same time, the work of Kepler and others undermined astrology’s tenets. Its popularity and longevity are, of course, irrelevant to the truth of astrology in any of its forms.

France is a very catholic nation and many french go off to Christmas Mass.
Here are the french literal translations for two Christmas Carols that are sung to the same tunes in English.
Douce nuit is the French version of Silent Night. They are sung to the same tune, but the translation given is the literal translation of the French Christmas carol Douce nuit, which is quite different than Silent Night.
Douce nuit, sainte nuit !
Dans les cieux ! L’astre luit.
Le mystère annoncé s’accomplit.
Cet enfant sur la paille endormit,
C’est l’amour infini,
C’est l’amour infini !
Sweet night, holy night!
In the heavens the star shines.
The foretold mystery comes true.
This child sleeping on the hay,
Is infinite love,
Is infinite love!
Lyrics for “Au Royaume du bonhomme hiver,” a French Christmas carol
Au Royaume du bonhomme hiver is a French Christmas carol, the equivalent of “Winter Wonderland.” They are sung to the same lyrics, but the translation of the French given here is literal, as the French lyrics are quite different than the English ones.
Écoutez les clochettes
Du joyeux temps des fêtes
Annonçant la joie
De chaque coeur qui bat
Au royaume du bonhomme hiver.
Listen to the bells
Of the joyful holiday times
Announcing the joy
Of each heart that beats
In the kingdom of the winter snowman.
Sous la neige qui tombe
Le traîneau vagabonde
Semant tout autour
Une chanson d’amour
Au royaume du bonhomme hiver.
Under the falling snow
The sleigh wanders
Spreading all around
A love song
In the kingdom of the winter snowman.
Le voilà qui sourit sur la place
Son chapeau, sa canne et son foulard
Il semble nous dire d’un ton bonasse
Ne voyez-vous donc pas qu’il est tard ?
Kabbalah Symbols Explained
Posted on: May 16th, 2008The article below is from a series of mysticism related articles, tips, videos and information about Kabbalah symbols …
It is probably little wonder why some followers object to the idea of just anyone wearing the Kabbalah symbols of their faith as a mere fashion accessory. The tree of life symbol, even when encrusted with diamonds and gold means something more to them than just pretty decoration to be worn out to a new club or fashion show. It is a mark of their faith and their beliefs. It is a representation of their belief system and is something that reminds them of their faith on a daily basis.
With regard to Kabbalah symbols, the tree of life symbol was originally called the Etz haChavim and is looked upon as a blueprint of creation. It is a representation of a tree and how we are all bound together as one. We all come from the same common root and are all interconnected in the same tree even when we are on different branches of life.
The Kabbalah tree, known as the tree of life symbol, is called the diagram of the Sephiroth and is a drawing of how creation came to exist. It comes from the texts of Sefer Yetzirah, Bahir, and the most widely known, the Zohar. It would be extremely impossible to explain without drawings how the tree of life symbols actually look since so many of the texts differ on the numbers, path and even plants that the Sephot actually represent. It is a matter of which representation of the books and beliefs that the tree of life actually takes on that make up the life pathways for the drawings themselves. You would need to look it up to know.
Christianity worships the cross. The followers of different religions each have symbols that they believe to be sacred. Kabbalah symbols, such as the tree of life symbol are no different. It takes on a life of its own to those who follow Kabbalah and truly believe in the representations of each of the branches that originate from the words and inscriptions. The red string Kabbalah bracelet is more than just a piece of jewelry. It is a representation of history and a way to understanding the path to creation for the Kabbalah follower to reflect upon.

God’s Heart Revealed Through A Shocking Story
Posted on: May 15th, 2008Rembrandt’s painting, Return of the Prodigal Son, illustrates one of Jesus’ most shocking parables - a story about two brothers who rebel against their father. The younger son takes his inheritance and runs away, wasting it all. The older brother stays home and dutifully serves his father. The shocking thing is that the son who ran away ends up forgiven and restored, while the one who stayed home ends up alienated and miserable. Jesus’ point is that people who are broken (and know it) are welcomed by the Father, while those who appear to have it all together may in fact be very far away.
Want to learn more about this shocking and unexpected welcome to broken people? Come and visit Abingdon Presbyterian Church as we worship and learn about the God whose heart is full of compassion for sinful rebels like us.
