Cheap Outdoor Camping Stuff Fact And Tips
Posted on: November 8th, 2008I started my camping as a spare time activity just a few years ago. Initially, I was shocked by the cost of outdoor camping equipment. Even though it is possible to look for cheaper camping gear, somehow it is quite difficult to come by. Camping gear store try to promote everything to you. These include trying to sell you the latest outdoor clothes, high-tech sleeping bags, synthetic thermal underwear or whatever they can think of. It does make sense . But, what I didn’t know those item being promoted is only really required for difficult and advanced camping trips which falls under emergency survival supplies. If you understand what you really need and what you can make do without, my dear friend, you can save a lot of money. Thus, making wise purchases will definitely help you to enjoy your camping trip even more.
A good friend of mine who I called “serious outdoors guy” stated that the top two important stuff for hiking trip are hiking and sleeping. This might sound obvious, yet, many people don’t really follow it through to its conclusion. Let me explain further. You need outdoor camping equipment that helps you to hike and that helps you sleep. Meaning that a hiking trip starts with your boots. Hiking boots are important. You shouldn’t reserve any expense on your hiking boots. You need shoes that are heavy and padded enough, yet relaxing to walk in. You also need a relaxing sleeping bag. You can get cold at night – especially if you are up in the mountains. It is definite a worth investment in a good one. Here’s the word of advice. You are advised to look for a sleeping bag that is rated to 10° lower than you ever expect it to get.
Next, you need a nice jacket. There is plenty of outdoor camping jacket that designed to keep you warm. A thermal jacket is a consumable investment as you can wear it anytime when you are not camping as well. They are nice-looking and well made. Most of them are getting more and more well-liked in urban areas. For your information, you don’t needs serious outdoor shirts for every step of the day. What you need is to get one with a cotton T-shirt, khaki pants, and boxers or thermal underwear. You need not to buy those high-tech thermals either. Plain cotton ones work well other than you are on an extremely difficult and demanding trip. Though cotton doesn’t really make the best outdoor camping element, it is fine for most function. Lastly, you need a good backpack. If you are just going for few days, you don’t need to buy an uneconomical one. Any longer, however, and you’ll be happy to have a good internal frame hiking outdoor camping backpack. If you need more tips, you can always hop online for further research on camping back packing. Enjoy your camping.
Coordinate Safety First For Your Fun Camping Experience
Posted on: November 3rd, 2008Camping can be a great deal of fun; however even when having all that enjoyment you still need to do it safely. Although chances are good that nothing will go wrong, you want to make sure that you are prepared if it does.
That is why you should abide by these tips for remaining safe while you are camping, even if you’re bringing along an RV.
Safety First
First, you should never go camping without a complete first aid kit. It may seem insignificant if you get a tiny cut, but with all the dirt, leaves, and water you will be touching it is in your best interest to have at least a band-aid to cover it up.
You should also carry a first aid kit to help with any allergic reactions, such as bee stings. Bring antiseptic, pain relievers for everyday headaches, and even a snake bite kit if you are going somewhere that is rather remote.
Be Sure You have Essentials
When camping, carry your basic camping equipment, such as flashlights to get to the bathroom at night. Along with this, it is imperative to carry a hunting knife, a whistle in case you get lost, fire starter for the same reason, warm clothing, and food even if you do not plan to stay overnight. You never know when you might get a little off the beaten track and need extra essentials.
Checking the weather before you leave for your camping trip is extremely important. Even if there is just a slight chance of rain, you should be prepared with waterproof clothes and a tent, as well as waterproof matches to light a fire if you need it.
When you first get to the camp site, check around for potential hazards. That includes uneven terrain nearby that you may walk over at night when it is difficult to see, as well as any beehives in the vicinity of your camp site.
You also want to make a quick check for any poisonous plants that may be in the area in which you are sleeping so that you can avoid settling near them.
Once on the Campsite
Most campers eventually light a fire, and although camp sites usually have a specific fire pit for your use, make sure that it is safe. Keep all flammable objects - including dry leaves - well away from the fire, and don’t allow your personal belongings to get any closer than 12 feet because of sparks that may jump out of the fire.
This includes your tent and clothes. And speaking of dangerous fire, you should never use candles or heating devices inside your tent at any time.
Lastly, you need to use common sense for your entire camping experience. Just because you are on vacation doesn’t mean that you should take a vacation from safety! This includes disposing of your garbage in the proper bins since garbage can attract unwelcome animals that you simply do not want anywhere near you.
Don’t panic if something negative does happen during your camping trip. As long as you are prepared for most typical camping dangers, you should be well positioned to handle it.
What Is Basic Facts Regarding Air Pollution Control
Posted on: October 20th, 2008Air pollution control is quickly taking the front seat in the world of greenhouse issues, with both the United States and China as ringleaders as the two major global producers of greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. An interesting fact is that Americans are producing five times the amount of the toxin as the average Chinese, with China estimated to quickly catch up in the year 2050 with a population peak of 1.5 billion people unless something is immediately done.
Both countries are making serious commitments regarding pollution control strategies, with the latest medical research and studies adding an immediate emphasis for its immediate control, in order to improve the lives and health of their own citizens. A recent article by HealthDay reporter, Steven Reinberg, states that “free radicals attached to small particles of air pollution are found to be the cause of lung damage and possibly lung cancer.” H. Barry Dellinger is considered the study’s leading researcher, and also the chair of Patrick F. Taylor’s environmental chemistry at the Louisiana State University, with these latest finds explaining why many nonsmokers are developing “tobacco-related” diseases, such as lung cancer.
The disturbing issue is that absolutely none of this was ever necessary. We would have no real need for air pollution control, except for the Industrial Revolution and our dependency on the rapid growth of industrialization results of that era. On its own, every twenty-days our planet receives enough sunlight energy that matches in quantity and surpasses in quality the entire planetary reserves—coal, oil, and natural gas. But the problem is here from our own doing, and we need to deal with it through the best forms of air pollution control we can. The latest developing control strategies are being developed and applied through mandatory air pollution control agendas, utilizing single or a combination of individual measures.
Different forms of air pollution control can either focus on one pollutant, several pollutants, sources of air pollution, or can be implemented within a wide range of scales—global, international, local, national, or regional. And truth be known—all of them are extremely necessary to achieve the world’s goal of clean air for our own safety. Some different forms of strategies to prevent air pollution are energy efficiency, changes in technological processes, coatings without solvents, and reducing manufacturing and mobile source sector emissions to counteract continuous population growth and economic development on a worldwide level.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) sets the regulations for controlling air pollution and radiation exposure, in addition to developing national programs and technical policies. Their primary concerns deal with preventing pollution and energy efficiency. They also are concerned with many other issues:
• Indoor and outdoor air quality
• Industrial air pollution
• Pollution from vehicles and engines
• Radon
• Acid rain
Stratospheric ozone depletion
Climate change
Radiation protection.
Ideas To Get The Greatest Fuel And Electrical Benefits From Your RV
Posted on: October 17th, 2008RV’s, or recreational vehicles, are a very popular means of travel - sort of a camping on wheels. Not only do they come in many sizes and styles, but they serve as a great way to see the country without having to make hotel reservations, buy plane tickets, or spend a ton of money to vacation in style.
With an RV you get the comfort of your own home, yet can take it and its options wherever the roads lead.
By traveling all of the country you will see many of the sights that you’ve longed for, and can simply keep on going if you do not feel like staying at one particular destination. With family and friends together in your RV, you have a lot of time to spend together enjoying the scenery along the way.
Conveniences can be Costly
RV’s already hit the wallet hard, so there is built-in incentive to minimize expenses once on the road. Most contain all the modern conveniences of your own home, such as a fully equipped kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Some even have extra amenities that may include a built in television, surround sound stereo, and more.
The main down side to this wonderful mode of transportation is that they can really break the budget when it comes to fuel. RV’s do have larger tanks, averaging around 55 gallons in capacity, but the larger RV’s use a great deal of fuel.
Even the smaller ones can put a dent in your wallet if you are on an extended trip. That doesn’t even take into consideration the electrical usage drawn by many of the extra amenities.
Doing the Little Things
While fuel and electricity usage are a normal part of a recreational vehicle expense, there are ways you can lower your costs so you aren’t breaking the bank every time you take a family vacation. Simple steps like turning off the lights while traveling during the daytime can help you save money and maximize your electric usage.
The same can be said about appliances; if you do not need them, they should not be left on. Look instead for alternative methods of power such as the sun to provide light in the RV during the day. By buying an RV that can use solar power you will considerably lessen your cost on electricity.
Solar modules can easily be installed if you do not have them available to you. They are used to charge the RV’s batteries so that you are not expending all the electricity. This can mean additional and significant savings on your fuel, which is quite expensive almost anywhere.
Attention to Basics
Another way to save on fuel costs is to routinely change your oil and make sure you get a thorough tune up when needed. Attention to these details keeps the RV running very efficiently to save you money in the long run.
By understanding what it takes to run an RV and maximize efficiency, your purchase and subsequent use doesn’t have to be as expensive as you might otherwise think.
Searching The Cosmos With A Refractor Telescope
Posted on: October 4th, 2008In the world of astronomy, different types of telescopes are used to view the stars and planets. However, it is the refracting and reflecting telescope that represent the two basic types of telescope used by today’s novice and professional astronomers. Of these two telescopes, the refracting telescope has the longest history and has been in use for centuries. Its design was developed around the 15th century and is still a very popular telescope in the twenty-first century. Actually, a refracting telescope is one of the oldest telescope designs still in use by today’s astronomers.
The Workings of a Refractor Telescope
The refracting telescope, sometimes referred to as a refractor telescope, consists of multiple concave lenses which allow the incoming light to be refracted, resulting in images that are brighter and larger. These qualities make the actual images appear much larger than viewing with the naked eye. These refractors gather the incoming light and bend it, allowing you to view objects from a distance. This magnification is what provides you with the ability to clearly view the stars and night sky. Even though refracting telescopes look complicated, the truth is that they are basically a series of concave lenses that refract the light.
The Advantages of a Refractor Telescope
The refracting telescope has a long history, with centuries of use and design enhancement. Over time, its design was repeatedly tested, resulting in continuous improvement of its design and magnification capabilities. This was a real benefit providing astronomers with the opportunity to determine the refracting telescope design’s strengths and weaknesses.
The refracting telescope has obviously been improved dramatically since the fifteenth century. Even with the improvement of refractor technology, it is the size of the refractor telescope that still poses a potential concern. As the need for increased magnification has presented itself, the refractor lens has become larger. This can result in a larger risk of defects or sagging.
The truth is that refracting telescopes have proven themselves across the centuries and, to attest to their value, have remained one of the most popular designs among astronomers. Regardless of the type of telescope you choose to scan the cosmos, the ongoing use and popularity of the refracting telescope provides assurance that it will be with us for decades to come.
Finding a Refractor Telescope
We know that it can be a little confusing trying to decide on the best refracting telescope to purchase. But what we found was that visiting telescope and astronomy websites that provide telescope reviews can be very helpful in making your decision. So, whether you are considering a child telescope or professional model, be sure to do your research and you will be assured of enjoying many hours of star gazing pleasure.
A Beginner Telescope To Expand Your Youngster’s Universe
Posted on: October 4th, 2008If your young star gazer seems to have a fascination with the stars and planets, consider buying them a kid telescope. We are not talking about a toy or a pirate’s plastic telescope, but a real quality telescope designed specifically for novice star gazers. Now it is important to choose a telescope that allows for optimal viewing of celestial bodies while providing a clear magnified view of your targeted celestial bodies. A telescope that has these capabilities will provide for a more positive experience for your star gazer and heighten their interest in the world of astronomy .
What Type of Beginner Telescope Should You Consider?
With fewer moving parts and a simplistic, well-crafted design, the refracting telescope design has been highly recommended by some experts as one of the best beginner telescopes. Others believe that an easy-to-use dobsonian telescope is the better telescope for novices. In making your decision, a good source of information is the telescope user reviews found on many online telescope websites. But, whatever your choice, select the model that is tailored for new telescope users and one that can be set-up quickly and can be aligned and operates easily.
While a kids telescope cannot offer custom or state of the art optics, ones from reputable manufacturers are generally quite satisfactory. A word of warning though — It is generally best to avoid “department store” telescopes. These are generally of lower quality and designed for mass production at the expense of quality.
Why You Should Start with a Beginner Telescope
The reasons we suggest that you start on a smaller scale is that you want to avoid the frustration of attempting to use an advance telescope without training and experience. A beginner telescope will afford you with a great number of opportunities to view the stars and planets while you learn the basics of stargazing. Prices for a kids telescope can be as low as $200 or as high as $2,500, but we would suggest that you look for telescopes in the $300 to $600 price range.
So if your novice astronomer is ready to start on their journey to the stars, take a “right” at the Sea of Tranquility and fly yourself into deep space by visiting the Crab Nebula. Its really easier than you think, thanks to the strong magnification , precision optics and simple operating controls of the kids telescope .
Camping Tips
Posted on: September 27th, 2008Family camping is lots of fun. It’s like swimming or bicycling - you have a great time while you’re doing it, but you can be exhausted by it. Camping also means different things for many different people. Some folks take a fully-loaded RV with a surround sound home theatre system into the woods and call it camping. I don’t think that should be considered “camping.” I think that should be called “cheating.” In order to get the most out of real camping, following are great family camping tips for less stress and more enjoyment.
Besides your tent, what you will need for a successful tent camping event is bedding, a water carrier, food, necessary medical supplies, fire making supplies (matches, lighter, etc) and a mobile phone. If you have your dog with you, then you need to carry his or her food and a water bowl. There are some dogs that don’t mind carrying a backpack, but don’t over pack it. Everything else is just wants and not needs.
You might consider a separate tent for your kids, especially if they are teenagers. Most children enjoy their own space when they get older.
Don’t Drink the Water
The most practical of camping tips is to not risk drinking from any questionable water source, no matter how nice it looks or smells. Camping trips really go downhill when vomiting or diarrhea is involved. If you are not certain of the source, either carry a water sterilizing pen (very light) or boil water for ten minutes before using. Out of all the camping tips, please remember this – water is more important than food in order to stay alive. Should the worst happens and you need to abandon your food to a hungry bear (for example), give up the food. The water is more important.
Clothing
Bring far less of the regular stuff (like shirts, shorts, pants) and far more of the unusual than you would expect. Don’t forget raingear (raincoat and splash or waterproof pants) plenty of warm and cool stuff (including both a sunhat and warm hat).
Practice camping
Practice at least one night in the backyard (or basement, if you have a freestanding tent) before you go. At night you will want to be sure no little ones can get out of the tent. Bring some bedtime books and reproduce the bedtime ritual you have at home, including brushing teeth and going to the bathroom.

Having Fun On A Journey At An RV Site
Posted on: September 25th, 2008When you travel in your RV for vacation or even a quick getaway, you want to take full advantage of your home away from home. You can’t do that if you are constantly stopping at a hotel or simply camping to sleep.
Besides the fact that you are spending money you do not need to pay - and that you have no doubt already spent plenty on your RV itself - you have many options with your own RV so you do not have to do this.
Many people even stop at rest areas along the way that do not have hook-ups for shower and appliance usage. This doesn’t make any sense either. The best place to park your RV is in an RV park that is specifically made to handle all your needs.
Usefulness of RV Parks
Recreational parks have been around for a long time and can be used for both camping and RV parking. These parks usually have all the facilities that hotels include, and are much less expensive than hotels.
RV parks typically include picnic tables for eating, barbeque grills, electric and AC power, wireless Internet connections, pools, playgrounds, gift shops, and even fitness areas. They are often owned by a private corporation such as Kampgrounds of America (KOA), and they scatter their RV parks around the country so that no matter where you go you can find a KOA that will accept your RV.
Preparing to Secure a Park
Before you travel to any RV park you should make a reservation just as you would for a hotel. They will usually charge you a base price that includes your length of stay and any water and electrical hookup charges they have.
The prices are considerably less than hotels and offer any amenities that are on site. There are many great parks around the country, and by doing a quick search on the Internet you can find one in the area to which you are traveling.
Enjoyment of your Stay
The atmosphere at the RV Park is very family friendly. You will see many large groups of people having fun on the playground or basketball courts and enjoying late night campfires. Most people are very respectful of one another, and you each have your own area in which to sit and enjoy your vacation.
Make sure to bring everything you need, such as a cooler with plenty of drinks and food, and outside chairs to soak up the sun. Along with your fishing poles and hiking shoes, you should be all set to have a great vacation.
Effective Birding 101
Posted on: September 25th, 2008Effective birding will depend on how you behave around birds when you are out in nature. Do you remember in the Disney movie Snow White, Snow White is out in the forest and the wild birds come towards her, land on her and chirp merrily to her. This is an ideal and attractive concept, but in reality unlikely to happen. It is extremely rare to be able to build trust or to tame a wild bird.
The way that you behave when you are out birding is important because you do not want to alarm or frighten the birds. To a wild bird you are just like a predator and instinctively birds will be cautious and wish to avoid you.
If possible be seated while birding. Wear neutral colour clothing. Effective birding happens when you are able to blend in with your surroundings. By wearing neutral colours rather than bright colours you’ll be more able to blend in and be unnoticed. The best colours to wear would be green, brown, or tan shades.
If you go to the same location each day and sit quietly watching the birds, the birds will become accustomed to you. Avoid any sudden movements. This means that you should raise your binoculars to face in a slow steady movement.
