Troubleshooting Your Online Business With The Help Of A Dictionary
In many subjects using specialized glossaries which provide definitions to the terminology of this subject is the natural thing to do. Trying to study it without a tool to learn the meaning of subject specific terms would seem strange if not stupid to most.
Internet marketing doesn’t seem to belong to these subjects although it definitely is a highly specialized activity and so are the terms describing it’s concepts and procedures.
However, many trying to start an online business, either as a part time activity or as a full time job, do not make sure they understand the basics first before they become active. They do not see that an indispensable prerequisite to learning the basics is learning the basic terminology.
They buy an ebook, a video tutorial or an ecourse about some internet marketing strategies, start studying it, go by the terms which seem familiar to them from their day-to-day vocabulary and do not realize that these terms have a internet marketing specialized meaning which they do not know. Therefore they understand only half of the materials and either put it away before they have come to it’s end or they finish it and apply what they thought was instructed. Very often this is not the same what was actually stated in the materials.
When they fail they do not attribute it to the fact of their inadequate studies but maybe consider themselves as generally incompetent or they blame it on the author of their material. That he had scammed them with just rehashed information and withheld his “real secrets” from them.
This is often encouraged by other internet marketers who use this line of think in the sales pitch to their newest internet marketing related product. They establish agreement by telling the losers that their failure was not their fault but the consequence of withheld or false information. Now this new product would spill all the secrets for the first time.
One would mean that this kind of promotion could only work once but this doesn’t seem to be the case considering how often it is employed.
So how can a dictionary help?
The following procedure is not offered as an universal remedy for all failures in your online business but it can be easily applied without having to spend more money.
Take one of your ebooks, preferably one that you didn’t study through to the end or one you couldn’t apply. Pick some special internet marketing term and ask yourself: “What is the definition of (e.g. the definition of long tail keyword)?”
If you can’t come up with an instant, accurate and complete answer then head over to internet marketing glossary and clear the word to a complete understanding. Do this for several words or work through the whole ebook this way.
Then check how you feel about the content now, whether it is more clear for you, whether some confusion has blown off or whether you feel a new drive to apply it and boom your business with it.
This is no promise that this will happen. But there is definitely a very good chance that something positive will happen!
Good luck.
